Coalition Calls for Scaling Back Essential Health Benefits

The Essential Health Benefits Coalition last week called on regulators to revise the essential health benefits rules to prevent the cost of coverage, in the new insurance marketplace that starts in 2014, from being out of reach for many businesses and consumers.

Other highlights include:

  • Alaska will let the federal government handle a health insurance exchange for the state.
  • Connecticut’s exchange will allow qualified health plans to offer one standard plan and one non-standard plan per metallic tier.
  • Washington and New York’s legislatures have convened to face issues such as ACA-related changes, PBM regulation and Medicaid reform.
